A lot of people said tenkara rods were a waste of money a few years back... $150 for a cane pole... There are still quite a few holdouts, but many have come around. I've certainly had a lot of fun with them for the past 6 years and feel like I have gotten more than my money's worth.
$150 for this on the other hand...
Umm...take my money now?
Actually, I'm not sure I'm sold...but it's really freakin' cool.
Happy "Force Friday" & Labor Day weekend. Regularly scheduled fishing content will return next week.
I don't think I'll eve like Tenkara. To condradict myself though we did just have the 3 time back to back youth fly fishing champion and his father a multiple world champion give a talk at my fly fishing club meeting. They talked about using really long rods and leaders, They said the reel didn't even really matter they were mostly using the line and rod to control the fish. The whole point was keeping contact between the fly and fish without any sag or slack in the line. You can do that with Tenkara rods pretty well. They also talked about fighting 25+ inch fish with 2wt rods. What they described was pretty close to tenkara setup wise just not exactly the same in the practice of how you fish.

ReplyDeleteI'll have to get one for my cats. Sophie will run and hide, Jasper will try to eat it.
