Went fishing for an hour or so yesterday just to kill some time before dinner. After pretty much going 0-for-February, it was good to put a bend in the rod again. Bass on a 3-weight can be a lot of fun.
Mike, I would certainly say so! Those appear to be nice Bass. How was the battle on a 3 wt. When I am throwing bigger stuff at Bass I usually use at least a 5 wt. Is that a Tenkara pattern you were using or a traditional soft hackle pattern?
Usually those ponds are full of bluegill and smaller bass, that's why I brought the 3 weight. The smaller bass has a tenkara kebari fly in it's mouth. It's on a size 8 hook rather than 12. The bigger ones were caught on woolly buggers.
I knew you'd like those Florida "winters." That one bass is a really nice one! Can't wait to see more - and some from that yak of yours. Just keep your eyes peeled for Mr. Big Teeth. :)
Urgh, I can't wait to fish open water again! Funny though that you were catching them on a soft hackle, towards the end of last year I was doing the same. Good stuff as always.

DeleteNice job of breaking the February skunk.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark, I needed it.
DeleteIs that green grass? I haven't seen any in a long time. Glad to see you're getting out.
ReplyDeleteYeah, grass is coming out of winter hibernation now...which means I'll need to break out the lawn mower next weekend...
DeleteVery nice bass, Mike! I bet that one put a great bend in the 3 wt. Can't wait to hook up with my first of the year.
ReplyDeleteIt did. The fish are usually smaller, so the light tackle makes it fun. Actually my 4 weight glass rod bends even more...can feel it down in the cork.
Deletekickin-bass.
ReplyDeletetakin-names! (couldn't think up a clever pun).
