I've been a member of the Stony Creek Anglers for a few years now. I actually joined the club in 2008, but didn't really start taking an active role until mid 2009 when I became the club treasurer. I understand that stocked fish may not be every trout anglers' cup of tea, however the SCA does so many positive things in the Norristown community, I can't help but dedicate some real estate on my blog as a "commercial" for the club.
Based out of the Norristown State Hospital / Farm Park grounds, the Stony Creek Anglers operate Montgomery County's first co-operative trout nursery. Each year the SCA raises and stocks the Stony & Kepner Creeks, as well as surrounding creeks such as the Skippack & the East Branch of the Perkiomen with over 10,000 rainbow, brook, brown, & golden trout.

The SCA hosts an annual Trout Tournament on the Stony Creek (it's primary fundraiser), typically scheduled for the last weekend of April or the first weekend of May. This popular two day family-friendly event presents awards for largest fish in several different categories.

In addition, the SCA oversee several community-based projects in and around the nursery & creek. Highlights include the annual Stony Creek Cleanup - which removes dumpsters full of trash & refuse from the waterway, an annual streambank restoration project in association with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, a weeknight fishing program for residents of the Norristown State Hospital & the Norristown Police Athletic League, Montgomery County Youth Field Day, as well as nursery open houses for the outdoor education of visiting youth groups including school students & scout troops.
